05/07/2018 -  CARLO ACUTIS (1991-2006) IS VENERABLE

Carlo Acutis è venerabile. This was decided on Thursday morning, July 5, by Pope Francis authorizing the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to promulgate the Decree concerning the heroic virtues of the Servant of God who died in Monza on October 12, 2006, at only 15 years old.

With the title of venerable the Church recognizes that Charles lived heroically the Christian virtues. It is the first step that will bring him, if in God’s plans, first to beatification and then to canonization.
He is known throughout the world thanks to his extraordinary computer skills that he put at the service of the Gospel and the Church. Through the internet and social networks he brought Jesus among his peers and among those who came into contact with him. For this innovative action, it can be considered a reference model for those operating in the world of social communication.

His motto was: “Everyone is born as original but many die as photocopies”. For him every person was born as a unique and unrepeatable being.

Love for the Eucharist and the Virgin Mary were the cornerstones of his life. He lived in intimate friendship with Jesus and in his constant presence. With deep prayer and frequent use of the sacraments, he understood that an effective missionary action required an authentic spiritual life. Hence the participation in the daily Mass since the age of seven and the recitation of the Holy Rosary, the most gallant appointment of the day with the only Woman - the Virgin Mary - of his life.

Carlo has a message for the young people of today: life in Christ is beautiful and must be lived to the full; the eternal realities are authentic and you are immersed more than you believe. From childhood he showed great charity towards his neighbour. Extraordinary was his love first of all for parents and then for the poor, the homeless, the marginalized and the elderly abandoned and alone. He used his weekly allowance savings to help beggars and those who slept outdoors. He organized fairs in the parish to help the missions with the funds collected.

Carlo was an absolutely normal boy. He did the things that all kids do today: he used the computer, he played with friends, he led a life similar to that of his peers. The only big difference was that he had put at the center of his day the encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist through Mass and the adoration he always did before or after the celebration. The daily Eucharist became a real need for him. He celebrated his sentence: "The Eucharist is my highway to heaven". He said that we are all called to be beloved disciples like John the apostle, the great singer of the Eucharist.

Because of this sensitivity, Charles showed a great ability to grasp the needs and demands of his time, providing an adequate response, making an important contribution to the work of evangelization. Through his action and his conduct, he represents a credible model of youth who knows how to follow with courage and firmness the path indicated by the Lord, despite the difficulties, misunderstandings, obstacles and even the derision of those close to him.

The recognition of his heroic virtues is a stimulus for the new generations to follow Christ.
